Showy Lady’s Slipper Orchids (cypripedium reginae)

The Showy Lady’s Slipper Orchid is a large orchid standing 35-90 cm tall. It has a spectacular flower with pure white petals surrounding a pouch that varies in colour from deep rose to light pink. Individual stems can produce up to three flowers.

The Showy Lady’s Slipper Orchid is a perennial pant which grows in colonies. The Purdon colony is probably the largest single colony in Canada and has been in existence for more than 50 years, spreading form its original dozen flowers to more than 16,000 blooms, thanks to Joe Purdon (insert link to Joe post).

The orchids habitat is a type of wetland known as a fen.
