Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority protects and regulates important environmentally sensitive areas such as floodplains, wetlands, shorelines and waterways. MVCA operates under the Conservation Authorities Act of Ontario Regulation 153/06, Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority: Regulation of Development, Interference with Wetlands and Alterations to Shorelines and Watercourses. The main objectives of this regulation are to ensure public safety, to protect property with respect to natural hazards and to safeguard watershed health by preventing pollution and destruction of sensitive environmental areas. This regulation establishes regulated areas within the MVCA watershed, including areas where flooding or erosion could occur or where interference with wetlands and alterations to shorelines and watercourses might have an adverse effect on those environmental features.
