MVCA protects and regulates environmentally sensitive areas such as floodplains, wetlands, shorelines, and waterways. Operating under the Conservation Authorities Act MVCA enforces the Ontario Regulation 153/06 Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority: Regulation of Development, Interference with Wetlands and Alterations to Shorelines and Watercourses.
The main objectives of this regulation are to:
- ensure public safety
- protect property from natural hazards
- safeguard watershed health by preventing pollution and the destruction of environmentally sensitive areas
by establishing regulated areas where flooding or erosion could occur and where interference with wetlands and alterations to shorelines and watercourses may cause an adverse effect on that environment.
Any proposed development, interference or alteration in a regulated area requires a permit from MVCA.
