February 21, 2019 CARLETON PLACE—Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority’s (MVCA) 51st Annual General Meeting took place on February 20, 2019 with some notable changes around the table.
Janet Mason, appointee for the City of Ottawa, will lead the MVCA Board of Directors in 2019. Mason, now in her second term with the authority and previous Vice-Chair, was acclaimed as Chair. John Hall, Councillor for Lanark Highlands, was acclaimed as Vice-Chair. Hall has sat on the board for four years.
Nine new members appointed by their municipalities joined the board at the meeting. A total of 17 members sit on the board, representing 11 member municipalities.
The total 2019 Operating and Capital expenditure in the amount of $4,471,369 was also approved at the AGM.
The board’s role is to establish policies of the authority, define programs and services to achieve its mandate, determine and monitor annual expenditures, direct management and advocate the work of MVCA in their community. MVCA’s area of jurisdiction covers 4,450 square kilometres.
It was also long time General Manager Paul Lehman’s final meeting as he is set to retire at the end of the month, with incoming General Manager Sally McIntyre taking over the reigns on February 25.
