| Night Sky Conservation |
Night sky conservation is a growing issue in rural environments. The Night Sky Conservation (NSC) program is a joint pioneer effort by CASTOR and the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority to educate the public about the effects of light pollution on our night skies. Its primary objective is to implement effective measures to reduce light pollution within the municipality associated with the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority. Click www.castor2.ca/nsc for full program details. The NSC program enhances the Mississippi Valley Conservation philosophy of balancing the needs of the community with the needs of the natural environment by educating the public about good lighting alternatives. NSC incorporates light pollution education and good neighbour lighting solutions with general interest astronomy courses to engage the public on many levels. The Mill of Kintail Conservation Area is a premier night sky viewing site recognized by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC), the Ottawa Astronomy Friends (OAFs) and local astronomers. Mississippi Valley Conservation supports night sky conservation and works with The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC)and the Fred Lossing Observatory (FLO) to provide programming at the Mill of Kintail Conservation Area, home of the FLO.
