CONSERVATION AREA MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority’s (MVCA) Conservation Area Maintenance Technician will learn new skills by assisting in the maintenance of various structures and site features within conservation areas managed by MVCA.

The successful candidate is regularly required to stand, walk, crouch, stoop, kneel and repeatedly lift objects for maintenance related tasks.
They must also provide excellent customer service and possess good communication skills to work with community groups and volunteers who support the summer programs and act as an ambassador for MVCA with members of the general public.
They shall assist their supervisor in completing daily inspection work sheets and identifying field hazards requiring remedy. Individual must be self-motivated, punctual, able to work with minimal supervision, and possess a positive attitude.

Duties include:
• Refurbishing recreation trails and vantage points to enhance and enrich visitors’ enjoyment and appreciation of the site’s natural features.
• Maintenance of site buildings and grounds including grass cutting and trimming, brushing, painting, installing and maintaining signage and trail maintenance.

Qualifications:
Employment requirements are based on special funding from the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association.

To be eligible, the successful candidate must be:
• Between the ages of 15 and 30
• A Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
• Legally entitled to work in Canada
• Legally entitled to work according to any provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
• Registered as a full time student in the previous academic year and intends to return to school on a full time basis in the next academic year.

Job Duration: Up to 15 weeks ending Dec 20th, 2019
Hourly rate: $14.00/hour
Hours of work: Monday to Friday 8:30 am -4:30 pm
